People read the passages too fast.

People don't look at the questions first.
You should always read the first question first!
After that, you can go to the passage and start reading until you see the answer to question 1.

People don't read the directions.
So many people skip the directions and just start reading.
This is a really big mistake for "complete the note" questions; if they ask you to fill in each blank with one word, you must only write
one word.

People's essays are too complicated.
People use big, “fancy” words and write really long sentences, thinking that this will get them a high score.
This is a huge mistake! If your essay is hard to read, it’s impossible to get a 7 or higher on Writing.

People use robotic transitions.
Do not start any paragraph with “First of all,” “Second of all,” and “On one hand,” “On the other hand...”
To examiners, these transitions sound
mechanical.
Use
natural and specific transitions for the essay topic.

People's essays are too disorganized.
Before you start writing, take a couple of minutes to plan what you'll write for each paragraph.

As you're reading ahead, underline key words, or words that stand out, in each question.
Mistake #3:
People freak out when they miss a question.
You're human - you might not hear the answer to one of the questions.
MOVE ON! Don't get hung up on it. Keep moving and pretend it never happened - you can still get the rest of the questions right!
